What Makes Squamish a Great Place to Live?

Published on

From beautiful mountains with picture perfect peaks to sunny patios and fine dining, Squamish has so much to offer. Deemed “The Outdoor Recreation Capital of Canada”, it’s the place to be for activities ranging from rock climbing to bird-watching. Escape the hustle and bustle – trade in the concrete jungle for lush forests and diverse wildlife in Squamish.

A short drive from Whistler and Vancouver means that you’re never too far away. Need more reasons to move to Squamish? We’ve got you covered, check out our list of the top 5 reasons why Squamish is where you want to be.

  1. So many activities

Located along the Sea-to-Sky highway, Squamish is recognized worldwide for its culture, recreation and incredible mountain lifestyle. From mountain biking to cross-country skiing to river rafting, you will never be bored! Hit the golf course at one of many greens in town, like Squamish Valley Golf, or hike some trails at one of the 8 provincial parks. If you’d rather see the sights, spend an afternoon visiting the Sea to Sky Gondola. The 10 minute gondola ride gives passengers sweeping views of the Howe Sound, luscious coastal forest, and surrounding mountains while ascending 855m above sea level to the top of the Stawamus Chief.

In addition to all the outdoor activities, you can also visit a number of museums, galleries, and heritage sites. The West Coast Railway Heritage Park features a typical mid-20th century railway station and old style town centre with over 90 pieces of railway cars and artefacts.

  1. Community and lifestyle

What better way to shop than at the Squamish Farmers Market, where you can get the freshest fruits and vegetables grown by local organic farmers. The market also includes a variety of other kinds of vendors – from crafts to jewellery to baked goods – and runs 10am to 3pm every Saturday at the corner of Cleveland Avenue at Victoria Street in Downtown Squamish.

Check out the Brackendale Art Gallery, a center for the arts in the Squamish Valley featuring gallery exhibits, concerts, theatre, workshops with artists and, in winter, a warm place by the fire after a long day of Eagle viewing. Cozy!
