There have definitely been some significant highlights for Squamish in 2014, not just in terms of Real Estate. The new Sea-to-Sky Gondola has been attracting thousands of new visitors to the area and it seems Squamish really is on the rise. The Squamish Music Festival and the Test of Metal were just two highlights of a hectic year. All this topped off with the recent inclusion in the New York Times as one of the 52 places to see in 2015. It really has been a great year for Squamish so let’s have a look at our year in review:
Real Estate in Squamish
Moving back to look at the real estate market in Squamish, the most notable change has been the increase in properties that have changed hands. Compared to 2013 there has been a 48% increase in the total number of units sold. The biggest leap was seen in the number of apartments sold, which has more than doubled since 2013. Interest in Squamish is continuing to grow as more and more people are finding out about one of the Sea-to-Sky’s best kept secrets. Despite the increase in sales, property prices have not increased that much year on year, with a modest increase of 1.5%. This means that, although increasingly popular, properties in Squamish remain affordable.
Building in Squamish
One key area that has not received much focus is the number of building lots and new home construction currently underway. This spring will see a huge number of new properties on the market, with a number of them already being sold. This adds a vibrant building sector to the Squamish economy which has helped lead the way to a revitalised Squamish.
With the large influx of new visitors and surge in popularity, the local community has been coping well and as always coming together to welcome those new to our area. Local businesses have been thriving as more discover what Squamish has to offer, and it is a great and exciting time to be living here. We can’t wait to see what 2015 has in store!
