5 Family Friendly Hikes in Squamish

Published on

Squamish is an incredibly family friendly place. So many people we meet move to the area specifically to start a family. The community seems to be getting younger every year, with more people leaving the city to seek out more affordable housing options and pursue an active, outdoor lifestyle.

With that in mind we spoke to some of our Realtors to find out their favourite family friendly hikes in Squamish so that you can get out and explore!

Shannon Falls

Shannon Falls is a classic Squamish family trip. It is BC’s third highest waterfall and truly is a spectacular sight.

Located just past the Stawamus Chief, travelling south along Highway 99, you can see the impressive falls from the road. The park itself is quite small, and the hiking trail up to the base of the falls is accessible for all abilities and ages.

There are a number of viewpoints and picnic benches along the trail, and if you aren’t tired, consider a walk through the forest towards the Sea to Sky Gondola and the Chief.

Brohm Lake

Brohm Lake is located North of Squamish and is a popular spot during summer for swimming and sunbathing.

On nice days the area can get quite busy so we recommend getting their early before the parking lot fills up. Most visitors stick to the eastern side where the most sunlight is, so if you’re looking to avoid the crowds head to the trail network on the west side of the lake. Trails here work are much quieter and you can enjoy some beautiful forest walks!

Alpine Alley – Sea to Sky Gondola

Alpine Alley at the Sea to Sky Gondola is a guided family adventure where you will help the tour guide find their lost hiking gear, while learning about the different animals living in the Sea to Sky area.

Taking place every weekend, it is geared towards young families who want to get outside and have an adventure together. You can also explore the trail without a guide by picking up the scavenger hunt card located at the trailhead. Present your completed card to Guest Services for a special prize when you’re finished!

Four Lakes Trail

The Four Lakes Trail is one of the best family friendly hikes Squamish has to offer. Located in Alice Lake Provincial Park, the trail is a 2-3 hour loop taking in the beautiful Alice, Fawn, Edith, and Stump lakes.

The trail is gentle and meanders up and downhill along the way with very short occasional steep sections. It is a great hike for all the family and you can stop at one of the beaches at Alice Lake to cool down or play in the sand.

Squamish Estuary Trails

Located a short drive down the gravel road towards the Squamish Spit, the Squamish Estuary trails offer some incredible views of Squamish. Bask in the evening light as it shines onto the Stawamus Chief and enjoy the sunset over the water.

The trails are very short and great for young children with opportunities to spot tons of wildlife along the way.
