How to Make the Most of your Outdoor Space

Published on

In Squamish we’re lucky to have many properties with outdoor areas and with social distancing in place it’s nice to have somewhere comfortable to relax and enjoy, with or without friends.

If you’re lucky enough to have an outdoor space, whether it’s a sprawling backyard, or smidgen of a patio or balcony, here are some ideas to make the most of your area!

Create an outdoor lounge

Looking for somewhere to relax this summer – turn your yard or patio into an outdoor lounge! Give it that poolside feel with chairs, a chaise lounge, sectionals, or even a hammock! Add some outdoor pillows for added comfort and style.

Complete the area with some side tables, candles, and maybe even a cocktail!

Outdoor bar

What’s the perfect way to spruce up your new lounge, than with a bar! You can buy a bar online, or up-cycle an old table or desk. Add a speaker, some glasses, and your favourite cocktail ingredients and there you have it – no need to worry social distancing at your favourite downtown spots when you have your own!

Check out these outdoor bars for inspiration, including ones you can fit into even the smallest of outdoor spaces.

DIY movie theatre

Movie theatres may be off limits, but that doesn’t mean you can’t recreate the experience yourself. It doesn’t have to be too complicated either – all you need is a white sheet that can be mounted and stretched tight, a projector, and your phone to play your favourite movies or TV shows!

If you don’t have a projector, it’s surprisingly simple to make one as well. All you need is a shoe box, some cardboard and a magnifying glass!

Fire pit

As we get further into summer and outdoor fire bans come into effect in parks and campsites it doesn’t mean you have to miss out. You can easily create a DIY fire pit for your backyard with a couple of supplies.

Don’t want to make your own? You can always buy a prefab fireball which you can also take camping!

Outside dining area

If you’re anything like us, you’ve seen enough of your kitchen this year! Whether it’s cooking, eating, or even working in there!

Mix it up and create a cozy al fresco dining area right in your backyard or patio! In addition to outdoor dining table and chairs, add a rug and some string lights to transform your space.

Chill zone

Missing your yoga studio? Breathe some life into your outdoor space with some calming scented plants like lavender or jasmine and create a relaxing meditation and yoga area.
