Squamish is an English adaptation of the Indigenous word, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh

It’s meaning reflects “Mother of the Wind” and “people of the sacred water.” The Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) have lived on and stewarded these lands and waters for thousands of years, cultivating a resilient culture and a deep, enduring connection to place.
